SAN FRANCISCO, CA, 2010 by Alex Greenburg

Alex Greenburg looks to capture timeless photographs. His colors, compositions and subjects are meant to be temporally unidentifiable. Alex spotted this cluster of artificial roses at a flower shop in the Mission District of San Francisco near where he lives. All of the air seems to have escaped the scene, leaving the exuberant flowers still and unrestrained by time.

Alex's professed dream is to make his life a work of art, and he is well on his way. His home, called "The SUB," is an old garage that he converted into a gallery, concert venue, and opulent kitchen (piles of sweet potatoes and parsnips atop the counter). If you visit his space and bribe him with a burrito, Alex will be sure to share one of his photo slideshows with you, an elaborate production and a form of presentation he views as crucial to understanding his work.

Alex was born in Boston and raised in Upland, California, but says he really "grew up" while studying the photography of William Eggleston at Stanford University.
