GONDOLA by Ansen Seale

Ansen Seale incorporates Abstract Expressionist ideas into his photography, making pictures that read less like reality and more like a canvas of adjusted line, color and form. He took this shadowy, seductive photograph in Venice, Italy in 1983. Ansen calls his chairs anthropomorphic: "that is, they are stand-ins for the people that use them."

Ansen was born in McAllen, Texas, next to the border with Mexico. He now lives in San Antonio with his wife, son, two dogs and two cats. His work has been featured in galleries, museums, private and corporate collections in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Los Angeles, the Canary Islands and Amsterdam. He holds a degree in Studio Art and Journalism, Broadcasting and Film from Trinity University.
