WHERE ICE MEETS SKY II (DAY) by Sarah Beth Goncarova

Sarah Beth Goncarova lives atop a hill in San Francisco with her husband Yary and two hungry crocodiles named Duncan and Grace. She has a fine arts degree in sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Masters of Architecture from the University of Maryland. She has exhibited her paintings at group and solo shows around the Bay Area, as well as in New York and Germany.

Her Where Ice Meets Sky series includes some of the largest pieces she has made to date. With a rich blue palette and a knife, Sarah Beth brings her ice and icebergs out of the water. The series was inspired by a trip to Iceland, where she and her husband watched icebergs crack and drip into the sea for hours on end. Sarah Beth says “I liked the contrast of the seemingly peaceful scene and the violent actions of the groaning, breaking, and drifting ice mass - the heaviness and the weightlessness, the blue of the water and the blue of the sky, and the knowledge that this melting process was set into effect by human deeds and there is was no taking it back.”

The original is a 44" x 44" oil painting on stretched canvas.
