A RIDE THROUGH CHINATOWN by Faye Vander Veer

Faye Vander Veer's "A Ride Through Chinatown," places on the streets of San Francisco. Faye painted the scene after a late afternoon trip to Chinatown. Long shadows stretched their arms across the street, contrasting the light and bright sky of the brilliant afternoon. Faye found the shadows to be a perfect compliment to the reds in the buildings and the dancing lanterns. She waited for a cyclist to cross the illuminated intersection to capture that moment in time.

Faye Vander Veer lives in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She is inspired by the work of John Singer Sargent and the French Impressionists, and has "had a lifelong passion for creating oil paintings that reflect my interest in the human spirit." Faye observes people's daily lives and paints her emotional response, the essence of what she sees. She believes the simplest act can become a compelling painting, and this charming piece is a great example of that.
