CITY IN SPRING by Maria Dimanshtein

The Chicago winter is legendary. Brutal temperatures and wind pound the city for months until spring finally emerges. But, as Chicagoan Maria Dimanshtein explains "spring is a very happy time here. Flowers, trees and people wake up after a long winter." Maria wanted to capture the seasonal celebration in her painting. A moment when the city fills with colors and smells, everything starts moving faster and there's an abundance of freshness, light and blooming.

Maria lives near Millennium Park in downtown Chicago, but grew up in Riga, the capital of Latvia. She started her art education at the age of 10. She has an art degree from the Riga School of Art, a BA in graphic design from University of Illinois at Chicago, and will begin pursuing an MFA at Northern Illinois University in August 2010.
