ARQUETTE by Nicolette Wales

Nicolette Wales lives by the Daiost phrase "wu wei," which means going along with the nature of things. She incorporates this idea into her creative process, which she describes as meditative, intuitive and keenly balanced between sensitivity and decisiveness. Nicolette has visceral responses to certain people as subjects - some feel right, some simply don't. The woman in this piece is an artist's muse from Southern California, who often poses with Oliver and Valentino, the two little dogs who go everywhere with her. With sparse lines and weighty blank space, Nicolette creates a sense of poetic beauty and a hint of sadness.

Nicolette resides in Pasadena, California with her husband, her Golden Retriever Blondie and her cat, Doggie. She grew up in both the East Bay Area of California and Maui, Hawaii. She graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena with a BS in Environmental Design and has shown her design work at the galleries and studio showings in Southern California.
