I am a painter, mixed media and glass artist.
My figurative work in oil is a marriage of two main goals: the architecture of form and the transformative effect of emotion. When feeling as intent informs the form, it is changed and becomes charged. Form does not disappear, rather it is heightened. The resultant image comes alive in its new incarnation.
This is the magic of art. When we can insert our feeling into paint, we can produce an image which breathes, has reality, and meaning. In a sense what we create is an avatar of ourselves.
This can only be accomplished when emotion is matched by drawing skill and expertise, when the two are in perfect balance. The ferocity of feeling much be equaled by a beauty of form to be effective. If not, the transformation fails. I draw constantly from life to comprehend the architecture and make it evident on the paper.
As my ability grows, so does the intuition for transformation. I am more and more able to create images that are resonant and compelling.
